Based on the best-selling book by Ernest Cline, this heartfelt story brings a Willy Wonka-esque contest into the world of virtual reality and video games, with our working-class teenage hero battling an evil corporation for control of the virtual reality known as the Oasis. Although vastly different from its source material, Steven Spielberg still manages to keep the heart and whimsy while offering sweeping set pieces, fantastic visual effects, and an abundance of chaotic action scenes.
