One of the key movies that convinced the movie-going public that women could be funny too, this film launched the film careers of Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, who would go on to star together in the much maligned sequel/reboot of Ghostbusters. While it may be best known for McCarthy unloading explosive diarrhea into a sink, you may be surprised to find out that scene wasn’t in the original script. It was added later, because director Paul Feig and producer Judd Apatow felt the female characters should act more like men. All the same, it’s a movie that manages to be hilarious even as it empathetically explores the loneliness that can come with the marriage of a friend.
